Air Leak Syndrome and Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) Pneumonia – A Case Series

Background: The COVID 19 pandemic caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Corona Virus – 2 has affected millions around the globe. It presents with a multisystem involvement, predominantly affecting respiratory system. Spontaneous Air leak syndrome which includes subcutaneous emphysema, pneumomediastinum and pneumothorax been reported as one of complications COVID-19 pneumonia. Method: This is series 10 cases, presented or more manifestations air among patients covid positive admitted in intensive care unit Meenakshi Mission Hospital Research Center, Madurai, India. Results: Out 365 cases analysed, developed either pneumothorax. incidence rate was 2.73% per 1000 population. None on invasive mechanical ventilation before developing syndrome. No had undergone an procedure like central venous cannulation, intubation bronchoscopy prior to onset leak. Age group sample 38 68 years. All elevated D-Dimer values. Conclusion: present case shows that can develop receiving oxygenation through Nin-Invasive Ventilation (NIV) High flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC). Recommendation: Patients who emphysema should be carefully monitored for signs life threatening sick patient borderline oxygenation. Keywords: pneumonia, pneumomediastinum,
